First reflection on Jn.17:21-26
“May they all be one, as Jesus and the Father are one”.

There are many things and ideas that can be taken from this passage of Scripture, at this time for me they raise a few questions.
1/ In what way are Jesus and the Father one?
God knows himself perfectly as does Jesus who is sure of his identity as Son,- as human  as Servant – as Messiah – as Sign. He knows that the father is expressed perfectly though him and that separated from the Father he is nothing and does not exist.

2/ Why does Jesus pray that we too may become one?
He prays for this unity with the trinity so that the world may believe that Jesus was sent by the Father.

3/ Jesus has given us glory, what is this Glory?
This Glory is the power of unity, the power of Love, the glory of the Father’s love for us. It is the same love that the Father has for Jesus. The Glory is the power to know and recognise this love and from where it comes.

4/ Jesus prays that his disciples may be where he is. Where is Jesus and why?
This is where Jesus is at. Where he really is in the heart of God., in the Glory of God.
5/ The world has not known God why?
Only the Son really knows God as the Father. The world is blinded by the material and illusions of creation.

6/ Why does he stress the need for the world to realise that he was sent by the Father?

7/ Finally what is so important about the world knowing the name of the Father?
So that everyone may come to know this love, experience it and come to know the Father so that Jesus and the Father may be in each of us and we in God.
